The garden by my side entrance caught my attention today as I scurried in from my morning workout.

For many people, these Spring plants symbolize a change of seasons… Hope for better days… Excitement for warmth, sun and outdoor activities… Opportunity to do the things that winter often restricts us from doing… A “new me” or “Getting back to the me that I loved”… And the list goes on.

What especially struck me today is this vivid image of Spring fostering growth, a fresh start, and “becoming”.

Rooted in certainly and confidence in its identity (its bulb at its core), its sense of “belonging”, and its perseverance to blossom/emerge as itself, these plants bring added beauty to the WNY landscape. Despite episodic adverse conditions (including the snow we are getting right now), these plants possess the tenacity to push, keep growing and show up each year as their authentic self, and spread/pay forward their beauty (within a garden, as well as transplanted to others’ gardens).

It reminds me of the parallel to ourselves- often in Spring, we are ready for a “fresh start”, A “new me” or “Getting back to the me that I loved”…

Unlike plants that passively rely on water, sun (ever notice when they lean toward sun?) and warmth, we are privileged with personal agency to take lead for our growth, that “fresh start”, sculpting the vision we have for ourselves, and position ourselves to spread/pay forward beauty. We are gifted with the power to create our “brand”.

The grace of our fresh starts and growth? We’re in charge. We identify what’s important and meaningful, we decide what the realistic and incremental action steps will be, we decide the pace we’d like to take, we decide how to address adverse conditions and obstacles along the way, and we decide when to make shifts and tweaks throughout. We design the harmony of conditions and actions to foster our success and “perennial refresh”.

As a Wellness Strategist, I feel gratified in spreading/paying forward my expertise, experience and relationships. It’s my purpose! In order for me to bring added beauty to/for others, I recognize that I need to have an abundant amount of energy to fully show up (physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially) as my authentic self for the priorities of the day- routine home tasks, counseling sessions, coaching sessions (often while walking), business consulting engagements, networking and relationship building, volunteer commitments, and family/social engagements.

To nurture my “brand”, I’ve established sustainable sleep and morning nutrition rhythms to nurture my body, spirit, and essence. I am diligent with various strategies to support quality sleep each night, as well as a high-protein, high fiber breakfast (the most important meal of the day) to punctuate my morning strength training and/or power walks.

These rhythms afford me the resilience and tenacity for the times of “adverse conditions”.

How about you? How are you leveraging Spring to emerge as your authentic self in fresh ways?

What habits are you cultivating to support your blossoming, your “perennial refresh”, and your tenacity?
