You may have seen my February 19th blog talking about my upcoming vacation and my intent to notice nurturing experiences with which to infuse more routinely in my non-vacation days.

Taking note of several things thus far, last Friday afforded me an especially transformative reflection.

We headed out to find a local diner in Carefree, Arizona for breakfast. As we perused the strip, I noticed a lot of tents and activity along a good stretch of the road. Out of character for me, I said “we should check that out”.

No clue exactly what it was, we stopped – “Thunderbird Artists Fine Art and Wine Festival”. Oh…. Why now…. We paid $5/person and into the exhibit we went. We walked through and stopped at several exhibits. No agenda… No time constraints… No goals… No expectations… Just simply living in the moment…. Enjoying being present… Doing something out of the norm… Engaging in conversation with strangers… And supporting a local community of artists.

For those familiar with Myers-Briggs, I nurtured my “perceiving” muscle- “dealing with the world by being open to new experiences.”

Inspired by the aura of “Carefree”, Arizona, I am reminded of the need to incorporate these kind of experiences more into my days.

How about you?

Can you recall a time at which you were progressing through your day, noticed something that piqued your curiosity or interest, and you changed the course of your day to follow your curiosity or interest?

What’s your secret sauce to help yourself move beyond the tug between how you should be spending your time (stay on the original course of your day) and how you want to instead use your time for a more freed of the guilt, anxiety, shame experience?

How do you play referee between your head “shoulding” you with guilt and shame and your heart affirming your want, reminding you about self-love, the “deserving” you, and that you’ve earned it?

How have you stayed on course to allow more of these course shifts?
