When was the last time you granted yourself a sabbatical?

Stepped back from the “busy-ness” that we often find ourselves in, the thoughtless routine of activities that in many ways aren’t activities that we’d choose for ourselves, took time away to prioritize you and brave the skepticism of others, and the unfamiliar to cultivate space in which to discover or re-introduce your core self to “you” again?

There’s no single reason for a sabbatical. There’s no one set purpose of a sabbatical. There’s no “one approach” to a sabbatical. As the CEOs and the experts of our own lives, we understand who we are, we know what we’re navigating, we’ve got the intuition to know when we need things to be different, and we’ve got the power stamina to make things happen.

I am returning from a nearly 8 month “blog sabbatical”, feeling super revitalized to get myself back to my “Wilfulness Wednesdays” rhythm. The impetus? Nothing more than self-love, self-grace, and self-permission.

Time is our scarcest resource- we cannot add to it; we can only refine how we choose to use it. Having time to explore new things, invest deeper in some things, and to repurpose our time often requires us to say “no”/set parameters to allow for saying “yes”/creating space for other things.

Freeing myself from my own expectation of a weekly blog allowed me to invest my time and energy in more expanded arenas, and unintendedly, other arenas through which I’ve accumulated content for blogs. (Be on the lookout!)

When we boldly flex our self-love muscles and gift ourselves a sabbatical, we nurture, care for, and rejuvenate ourselves, yielding the essential energy and vigor for a more gratifying life- a life for which we’re reminded is not guaranteed to any of us.

I am privileged to witness others’ transformative experiences through their purposeful investment in counseling or coaching with me as an element of their own sabbaticals. It’s such an honor to be a part of their quest for joy, peace, and “gratified”.

Sabbaticals- regardless of design- are peak life experiences that offer such a richness with which to enhance the quality of our lives.

 They inspire change.

 They help mitigate burnout.

 They promote clarity.

 They realign what matters.

 They foster exploration.

 They refine priorities.

 They provide a safe space for healing.

 They spark creativity.

How soon will you gift yourself the sacred space for you?
