Movement is essential to our health and well-being. While there are vast forms of movement, today’s blog focuses on walking. Walking as intentional movement yields physical and mental health benefits for everyone. My grandma used to always say- “Motion is the lotion”. Walking comes in many forms (speed, a stroll, etc.) and for many reasons. I imagine that most, like me, find purposeful walking as a combination of the following. What combination of walking do you leverage as a means for your health and well-being?
🚶♀️Clear the mind: Purge the stressful thoughts and shed the distractions to clear the mind
🚶Exploration: Mix the routine up with dedicated time to prioritize exploring new spaces
🚶♂️Functionality: Walk to accomplish errands- the bank, post office or store
🚶♀️Gratitude: Celebrate the privilege to be able to walk and thank the body
🚶Grounding/Earthing: Walk barefoot in the yard/in a park and reap the health benefits (google it!)
🚶♂️Inspiration: Cultivate a positive and growth mindset via walks with a Coach, mentor or friend, or with a favorite podcast or webinar
🚶♀️Mindfulness practices: Keep present and attentive to the immediate surroundings, one’s physical and mental state, and perhaps enhance effective breathing practices
🚶Nourish the body- human or pet: Treat the lungs and heart to a high-paced walk, and keep the joints loose
🚶♀️Partner time: Make time to be together with partner without distraction, to learn more about one another, and to support one another
🚶♀️Personal Challenge: Prove one’s strength, determination and enhance resiliency to face the adverse experiences that accompany life
🚶Slowing: Remove oneself from the fast pace and often chaotic experiences of the day
🚶♀️Socialize: Catch up with a friend, colleague, or family member
